Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: RN License required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Ability to transfuse blood - Experience with wound vac changes - Ability to manage PCA pumps - Heparin drip titration per protocol Description: Unit consists of 27 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5 during the day shift (maximum 6) and 1:6 during the night shift (maximum 7). Patient Care Technicians are available on the unit. Three PCTs are present on days and two on nights. PCT duties include bathing patients, changing linens, assisting with feeds, and ambulating patients. They also take vital signs every 4 hours and document in EMR. PCTs are responsible for emptying and recording I&Os, daily weights, EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, and transporting patients upon discharge. Respiratory therapists administer breathing treatments and manage respiratory equipment. Nurses do not read their own EKG strips. Monitor technicians on another level interpret the strips and fax the results for review. Shifts do not allow for self-scheduling but accommodate staff preferences and needs. Every other weekend is a requirement. May be required to participate in holiday rotation. Floating to other units is done on a rotating basis if needed. Nurses may be asked to float to lower acuity patient units. No on-call requirements exist, but standby is for low census situations. Navy blue scrubs are the designated attire for nurses. A short orientation with an educator and preceptor will be conducted.
