Description:
Unit has a 50-mile radius rule for applicants.
There are 48 beds on the unit.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights.
Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, AMS, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness.
Nurses are required to titrate certain drips, with the exception of cardiac drips.
Common titratable drips include heparin, bumex, and lasix.
A charge nurse is present on each shift and takes a patient assignment during day shifts.
If only one charge nurse is scheduled at night, they do not take an assignment.
Nurse aids/patient care techs are available on the unit, with an average ratio of 1:10-12.
Responsibilities for nurse aids include vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and patient positioning.
Respiratory therapy administers breathing treatments and manages respiratory equipment, while nurses typically monitor these patients.
A monitor tech is located on a separate level and is responsible for reading and monitoring telemetry.
Nurses are not expected to read or interpret telemetry strips.
Shifts for nurses are 7 AM to 7 PM, with no self-scheduling or block scheduling allowed.
Schedules are created by management, and travelers are expected to provide flexibility.
Every other weekend and holiday rotation may be required.
No call or standby requirements exist.
Floating and shift pull rotation may be necessary to assist with lower acuity patients on other units.
Scrubs for nurses are navy blue, while patient care tech scrubs are ceil blue.
Orientation includes one day with an educator and one day with a preceptor.
Travelers must adhere to a cancellation policy allowing for a limited number of shift cancellations during assignments.
Charting utilizes an electronic system for documentation.
