Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: MedSurg - Medical Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS required NIHSS required for all RNs and LPNs ACLS and PALS recommended but not required Must-Have: Strong MedSurg background due to the variety of patients Description: Unit has 32 beds but currently operating with 20 due to staffing. Nurse-to-patient ratio is no more than 5. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, orthopedic cases, detox patients, postoperative care, and pediatric patients. This unit can take a variety of cases except for laboring mothers and those requiring titration of cardiac drips or insulin drips. RNs are not required to titrate drips. There are no tele/monitor techs on this unit; ICU monitors are used and readings are faxed for documentation by the nursing staff. There is no charge nurse; a house supervisor makes assignments for nurses and aides. Nurse aides are present on the unit with a ratio of 3 per shift. Respiratory equipment utilized includes CPAP and BiPAP, which are managed by respiratory therapy. Shifts are 12-hour, scheduled from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with extra shifts available if needed. The manager is open to working with block scheduling preferences. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday rotation is expected with regular staff. Floating to assist other units is required as needed. Scrubs can be any color except camouflage or orange. Unit-specific orientation will include a review with management, tours, introductions, and discussions about policies. Training days on the unit will range from 3 to 5 days.
