Job Title: Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required in medical/surgical nursing License: Must have an active RN license Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry - Cardiac monitoring skills - IV therapy and phlebotomy skills - Genitourinary/Renal case management experience - Respiratory care skills - Professional knowledge in isolation precautions and wound care - Cerner experience required Description: Position requires a Med Surg RN specializing in Urology and Nephrology. This position is for day shifts from 06:45 to 19:15. The unit has an average daily census of 23 patients. It consists of 25 beds. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of experience in medical/surgical nursing. First-time travelers are accepted if they have a solid foundation as an RN. Weekend work is required every other weekend. There is no on-call requirement. The clinician will float to other medical surgical units as needed. Block schedule accommodation will be attempted but is not guaranteed. Local candidates are accepted with no radius requirement. Pending licenses are not accepted; a valid RN license is mandatory to apply. Time off requests should ideally not exceed five days. Candidates may be called off up to 36 hours during a 13-week assignment. Candidates must possess critical skills such as telemetry monitoring, use of rapid response teams, and renal failure management. They should also be proficient in blood product administration, IV management, and respiratory care. Skills in wound care and isolation precautions are essential. The facility is an acute care hospital and a Magnet designated institution. Patient diagnoses include a variety of urology and nephrology illnesses and surgical procedures. Special procedures include continuous bladder irrigation and postoperative care for kidney transplant patients. The unit is busy, often discharging and re-admitting a significant number of patients daily. Candidates must be flexible and prepared for a high patient turnover within the unit. The role requires knowledge of a variety of medical equipment and procedures related to the specialty.
