Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience required License: Must have an active Illinois license to apply Certifications: BLS and NIH required Description: Position: Med Surg RN Shift: 3x12 Days (0645-1915) Average Daily Census: 21. Patient ratios: 1:5 for days, nights, and weekends. First-time travelers accepted. Will work every other weekend. Floating to meet facility needs may be required. Cannot contract to block scheduling but typically can schedule colleagues 3 in a row. RTO ideally limited to 5 days. Client may call off up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without payment for canceled hours. Med/Surg experience is required. Preferred skills include cardiac monitoring and emergency response. Telemetry experience with remote monitoring is preferred. Experience with cardiovascular cases such as post-angiogram and post-myocardial infarction is preferred. Proficiency in endocrine/metabolic case management and IV insulin protocols is preferred. Skills in gastrointestinal care including colostomy care and feeding tube management are preferred. Experience in genitourinary/renal case management such as pre/post hemodialysis management is preferred. IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including blood product administration and peripheral line care/management are preferred. Experience with medications such as heparin, insulin, and patient-controlled analgesia is preferred. Neurological/psychiatric experience including cerebrovascular accidents and pre/post neuro surgeries is preferred. Ortho trauma experience and experience with surgical drains are preferred. Respiratory case management experience including chest tubes and non-invasive airway management is preferred. Knowledge of isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac is preferred. Previous charge experience is preferred. Experience with electronic medical records is preferred. Level I trauma experience is preferred. The facility is an acute care hospital with a total of 562 staffed beds. Patients include adults and geriatrics with conditions such as respiratory illness, infection, stroke, and surgical overflow. Nursing treatments performed include dressing changes, IV medications, central line care, and wound care. Basic equipment used includes Hoyer lifts and bladder scanners.
