The RN should have the ability to admit, discharge, and transfer patients, titrate medications, start IVs, and work with PICC/Ports. Participation in codes related to cardiorespiratory, stroke, and sepsis is required, as well as responding to traumas. RNs will be required to read their own telemetry strips and document findings using Mindray monitors. Charge nurse duties are assigned to the highest seniority RN on schedule, and minimal staffing is maintained for both Emergency and Medsurg units. CNA's are responsible for hourly rounding, taking blood sugars, vital signs, and patient care tasks. Respiratory therapy equipment available includes Bipap, high flow, and Hamilton T1 ventilators. Shifts are from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm and 6:45 pm to 7:15 am, requiring rotation between days and nights. Every third weekend and third holiday is required. Schedules are posted 4-6 weeks in advance. On-call duties are voluntary for high patient loads, with some staff being put on call if census is low. This RN will float between Emergency Department and Medsurg. Scrubs are provided with no specialty colors required. The typical orientation period is one week, evaluated by skill level and ability to adapt. Patient care spans from swing bed levels up to critical/trauma situations, with the intent to transfer when beds are available. EMTALA regulations must be followed. The electronic medical record system used is MEDITECH. Nursing is the only 24-hour department, while ancillary departments are on call during weekends and nights. Comfort with working independently and with minimal staffing while directly communicating is essential.
