Job Title: RN Med Surg Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-surg Adult Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Med Surg or Emergency Room required, previous traveler experience required License: Current RN license in good standing, ability to obtain required licensure Certifications: Current AHA BLS certification required, ACLS certification required or completion at next available course within 3 months, PALS certification required or completion at next available course within 3 months Must-Have: Cerner EHR/EMR experience required Basic computer skills and electronic health record experience required Description: Seeking an experienced Med Surg RN to provide observation and inpatient care to patients assigned to the Med Surg Unit. The RN is responsible for assessing and prioritizing patient care. The RN administers nursing care and procedures. The RN monitors and reassesses patients. The RN documents assessments and changes in condition. The RN educates patients and families. The RN collaborates with providers. The RN supports continuity of care to help prevent readmission. The RN performs comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluation of care provided. The RN monitors patients for changes in condition and reports abnormal findings to the appropriate provider. The RN administers medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely. The RN operates infusion pumps and documents accurately in the electronic health record. The RN completes required documentation in accordance with competencies, training, policies, and procedures. The RN uses Care Compass to organize and document assessments, care tasks, procedures, and patient education. The RN performs age-specific nursing care, including assessment and reassessment of patient condition. The RN demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, and takes appropriate action when needed. The RN provides patient and family education related to disease process, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care. The RN transfers care using SBAR format when appropriate. The RN follows infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals. The RN maintains patient confidentiality and protects patient rights, dignity, and privacy. The RN collaborates with providers, staff, and other departments to support interdisciplinary patient care. The RN serves as a mentor to other nursing staff and supports continuous learning. Work is performed in a hospital setting with exposure to work stress and environmental stress. This position requires the ability to perform heavy work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and assisting with patient movement and positioning. The role includes potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable disease, radiation, chemicals, hazardous materials, verbal or physical abuse, and physical strain related to patient care. Candidate must demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, service excellence, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital environment. Candidate must comply with all facility policies, procedures, safety requirements, confidentiality standards, and department expectations.
