Job Title: RN Medical/Surgical Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 07:00 AM - 07:00 PM Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Must-Have: Ability to read basic telemetry strips Description: The unit specializes in the care of acute stroke and complex telemetry patients. It is a high-acuity, fast-paced medical-surgical environment. The unit is designed to deliver evidence-based, protocol-driven care. There is a strong focus on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration. RNs are responsible for performing and documenting frequent neurological assessments. This includes the use of the NIH Stroke Scale. RNs will monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms and respond to changes in real time. Compliance with stroke core measures is required, including dysphagia screening, education, and care plans. Medications will be administered using BCMA standards with a focus on safety and accuracy. Care coordination is expected with an interdisciplinary team, which includes providers, therapy, and case management. Management of admissions, discharges, and patient flow in a high-turnover environment is essential. Maintaining a constant focus on falls prevention, skin integrity, and patient safety is crucial. Eight hours of stroke training is required.
