Previous Charge RN experience highly preferred.
Willingness to be trained as Charge RN if lacking previous experience.
Description:
As an RN, you will care for patients with various medical conditions including total joints, general medical-surgical, appendicitis, colectomies, urology, heart failure, pneumonia, sepsis, and diabetes.
You will work with patients who may have addictions alongside other medical issues.
Patient ratios are approximately 1:5-6 during the day and 1:6-7 at night for RNs.
For Techs, the ratio is around 1:10-12 for both days and nights.
Skills required include managing chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, and, less frequently, epidurals and IV antibiotics.
While reading and interpreting cardiac strips is not mandatory, it is preferable.
Tech responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, feeding, tray setup, answering call bells, monitoring vital signs, conducting blood sugar checks, ambulating patients, and facilitating range of motion exercises.
Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who takes assignments on most shifts, along with respiratory support and hospitalist services available 24/7.
Nurses are expected to attempt starting their own IVs two times before seeking assistance from the designated IV specialist.
Rapid Response is managed by an in-house provider along with respiratory, ICU, ED charge nurses, unit charge nurses, and the nursing supervisor.
Floating may occur to higher acuity areas to assist with Med Surg-level patients.
Weekend rotation is every other weekend, with travel pairs generally allowed to work the same weekends.
Holiday availability of 2 out of 4 as needed.
Approval of time off requires manager permission.
Scrub color is professional and flexible.
