Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active Illinois RN license required Certifications: BLS certification required Must-Have: Active Illinois RN license, BLS certification Description: Unit has a total of 29 beds. Typical patient census ranges from 22-26, with a target census of 25. The unit features a mix of private and semi-private rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are 4-5:1 during days and 5-6:1 during nights. Common diagnoses include GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly patients who fall, DVT, and pulmonary embolisms. RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips only. There is a dedicated Charge RN available 24 hours a day. The Charge RN is generally free from regular patient assignments. Crisis RN coverage and an administrative supervisor are available as resources 24/7. Patient Care Technicians (PCT) are present 24 hours with a ratio of 1:10. Oxygen requirements for patients may be up to 6L via nasal cannula, with stable BiPAP/CPAP used as needed at night. Telemetry patients are monitored remotely by a centralized telemetry department. Unit equipment primarily uses Philips monitors. A unit clerk is available 24 hours a day for administrative support. Shifts include both day and night hours with set reporting times. Every other weekend is required as part of the shift schedule. Holiday shifts will rotate among staff. Travel RNs will be the first to float as needed to other medical surgical units. RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources if unsuccessful. Inpatient phlebotomy teams will assist with blood draws as necessary.
