Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty - Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active Illinois license required or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Central lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes experience preferred. EPIC experience preferred. Travel experience on a Medical Surgical floor preferred. Experience in a Level I trauma center may be considered without travel experience if EPIC experience is present. Description: The unit has 56 beds, including private and semi-private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health issues. The RNs do not titrate drips. Common titratable and set-rate drips include Heparin and Lasix. A charge nurse is present on each shift who does not take on an assignment. Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living. The ratio of patient care technicians to patients is 1:8-10. Respiratory therapy equipment available includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea, inhalers, and suctioning. Telemetry is monitored remotely, and RNs can view strips on a pack or computer. Self-scheduling and block scheduling are permitted. There is a weekend requirement of every other weekend for day shifts and Friday/Saturday for night shifts. Floating requirements may include rotation to any other acute care general medicine area. Any color professional scrubs are permitted, with no visible tattoos or piercings except for earrings. Unit-specific orientation involves 2-3 shifts.
