Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical-Surgical Acute Care Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of hospital experience License: Active IL license required Certifications: BLS certification required; ACLS preferred for Charge RN position Must-Have: Experience in titrating drips, specifically Heparin Description: The unit consists of 18 beds, predominantly private rooms. Nurse-patient ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. The unit cares for general medical patients with various diagnoses. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin. A 24-hour Charge RN coverage is available, and the Charge RN may have a patient assignment at times. There are two Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on each shift with a ratio of 9:1 when the unit is full. RNs may encounter patients requiring oxygen up to 6L nasal cannula, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night, or PRN. Patients requiring telemetry will be monitored remotely. Unit equipment is primarily Phillips. The unit has a unit clerk available 24 hours a day. RNs will collaborate with unit leadership for scheduling preferences. There is a weekend commitment of working every other weekend, and holiday rotation is per policy. Call is not required for this position. Travel RNs are the first to float to other units as needed. Staff must provide their own scrubs in any color, excluding pediatric designs. Travel RNs typically have one shift of orientation with a unit preceptor. Pharmacy staff prepare all medications 24/7. In-house resources include a Hospitalist/Intensivist and Respiratory Therapy available 24/7. RNs are expected to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources if unsuccessful, using the inpatient phlebotomy team for blood draws.
