Job Summary

Join a high-acuity, fast-paced 34-bed Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit in Elmira, New York, specializing in the comprehensive care of acute stroke and complex telemetry patients. This unit is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, protocol-driven care with a strong emphasis on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

As a Registered Nurse on this unit, you will play a critical role in monitoring patient progress, implementing care plans, and ensuring optimal outcomes for a diverse patient population requiring specialized neurological and cardiac monitoring.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document frequent neurological assessments, including the NIH Stroke Scale.
  • Monitor and accurately interpret telemetry rhythms, responding promptly to changes in real time.
  • Ensure strict compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient education, and individualized care plan development.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, adhering to Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) standards.
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapy services, and case management.
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow efficiently within a high-turnover environment.
  • Maintain a constant focus on patient safety initiatives, including falls prevention and the maintenance of skin integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Ability to interpret basic cardiac rhythms.
