Travel Nurse RN - Medical-Surgical - $2,697 per week in Bismarck, ND

Description: This position is for a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse. The nurse will work in a unit that cares for a variety of patients including those undergoing total joint replacements, spinal surgeries, and urological procedures. Common surgical cases include abdominal surgeries such as laparoscopic appendectomies and bowel resections. The nurse will also care for bariatric patients and handle medical overflow cases. Care involves frequent management of hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies. The nurse-to-patient ratios are approximately 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. There is a charge nurse available on each shift, though the charge nurse may occasionally take a low acuity assignment. Patient care technicians are present on the unit, with a typical ratio of 1 technician for every 12 patients. Nurses may troubleshoot respiratory equipment but will primarily work with nasal cannulas, as respiratory therapists perform the treatments. Remote telemetry monitoring is available; however, RNs are not responsible for reading telemetry strips. The scheduling does not allow for self-scheduling but may consider block scheduling to meet unit needs. Weekend work is required every other weekend, and holiday shifts are needed as assigned. Floating to medical and telemetry units may be required, with assistance available for interpreting telemetry strips. The unit fosters a close-knit culture, and bedside shift reporting is expected to ensure effective communication among staff.
