Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a 24-bed Medical Surgical unit that serves as the facility's designated stroke unit, maintaining a patient ratio of 1:5 on days/evenings
  • Administer medications including heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone per care protocols
  • Deliver specialized care to neurology (stroke) patients and, as needed, oncology patients
  • Float between the Medical Surgical unit and Stepdown as unit needs require
  • Participate in charge or preceptor responsibilities as assigned
  • Adhere to required dress code of solid navy or black tops and bottoms
Required Qualifications
  • Active Iowa RN license (Nursys verification required)
  • Minimum of 12 months of Medical Surgical clinical experience
  • Minimum of 18 months of total nursing experience in a hospital or medical center setting
  • 24 months of current experience in Medical Surgical, oncology, or neurology documented on work history/resume
  • Experience administering heparin, cardizem, and amiodarone
  • Experience caring for neurology patients, specifically in a stroke care setting
  • Active AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Discipline-specific skills checklist (Medical Surgical, oncology, or neurology)
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with EPIC EMR
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (can be obtained during onboarding)
  • De-Escalation certification such as SAMA, MAB, MOAB, or CPI (can be obtained during onboarding)
  • Experience caring for oncology patients
