Contract (13 or 20 weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift (12-hour shifts, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 guaranteed hours per week (48 hours available upon request) | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday required
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed Orthopedic, Neurological, and Trauma unit serving populations including trauma, orthopedic (hip/femur fractures), and neurological (spine, neck, and back) cases
Perform strong neurological assessments, log rolling, and application of assistive devices such as back braces and immobilizers
Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; travelers may be required to pass a telemetry competency test
Insert and manage peripheral IV lines and assist with management of chest tubes, indwelling drains, epidurals, and wound care as applicable
Float within skillset to a sister campus as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus floats
May be required to precept nursing students and new hires in this teaching environment
Required Qualifications
Current, active compact RN license
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in an orthopedic, neurological, or trauma setting
Minimum of 1 prior travel nursing assignment
Level II Trauma experience required
Recent hands-on experience with EPIC electronic health records
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with chest tube and indwelling drain management, drip administration (e.g., heparin, diuretics, proton pump inhibitors), and epidural management
Familiarity with PEG/NG tubes, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q pain management systems, and wound care including wound vacs and packing
Experience with CIWA protocol and behavioral health patient populations
Step-down unit experience (required for telemetry test eligibility)
