    Job Title

    Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Orthopedic / Neurological / Trauma)

    Location

    Evansville, Indiana

    Schedule / Job Type

    Contract (13 or 20 weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift (12-hour shifts, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | 36 guaranteed hours per week (48 hours available upon request) | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday required

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide direct patient care on a 44-bed Orthopedic, Neurological, and Trauma unit serving populations including trauma, orthopedic (hip/femur fractures), and neurological (spine, neck, and back) cases
    • Perform strong neurological assessments, log rolling, and application of assistive devices such as back braces and immobilizers
    • Interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs; travelers may be required to pass a telemetry competency test
    • Insert and manage peripheral IV lines and assist with management of chest tubes, indwelling drains, epidurals, and wound care as applicable
    • Float within skillset to a sister campus as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus floats
    • May be required to precept nursing students and new hires in this teaching environment
    Required Qualifications
    • Current, active compact RN license
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
    • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in an orthopedic, neurological, or trauma setting
    • Minimum of 1 prior travel nursing assignment
    • Level II Trauma experience required
    • Recent hands-on experience with EPIC electronic health records
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • Experience with chest tube and indwelling drain management, drip administration (e.g., heparin, diuretics, proton pump inhibitors), and epidural management
    • Familiarity with PEG/NG tubes, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q pain management systems, and wound care including wound vacs and packing
    • Experience with CIWA protocol and behavioral health patient populations
    • Step-down unit experience (required for telemetry test eligibility)
