Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Day Shift (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM, 12-Hour Shifts) | 36 Guaranteed Hours Per Week

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a 32-bed Medical-Surgical Observation unit, managing a patient population that includes chest pain, abdominal pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, and geri-psych placement cases
  • Administer and monitor stable drips including heparin, Lasix, and Protonix, and perform peripheral IV insertions
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments utilizing strong critical thinking skills to identify and respond to changes in patient condition
  • Float within skillset to sister campuses as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus float assignments
  • Adhere to a weekend rotation of three weekends per six-week schedule and an every-other-holiday requirement
  • May be required to precept nursing students and new hires in a teaching environment
Required Qualifications
  • Current, active Registered Nurse compact license
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • NIHSS certification
  • Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical experience
  • At least one prior travel assignment
  • Trauma Level II experience
  • Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class will be required upon start)
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with observation-level patient care and neurological patient populations including CVA/TIA
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, work resiliently in a fast-paced environment, and collaborate effectively within a team
  • Comfort working in a teaching hospital setting with potential precepting responsibilities
