Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical (Observation)

Schedule / Job TypeContract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care on a 32-bed Medical-Surgical Observation unit with a patient population including chest pain, abdominal pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, and geri-psych placement cases.
- Administer and monitor stable drips including heparin, Lasix, and Protonix; perform peripheral IV insertion.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments utilizing strong critical thinking skills to identify and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Float within skillset to sister campuses as needed, with a minimum of 2 hours notice provided for cross-campus float assignments.
- Adhere to weekend and holiday rotation requirements: three weekends per six-week schedule and every other holiday.
- May be required to precept students and new hires in a teaching hospital environment.
Required Qualifications- Current, active compact RN license required.
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required.
- NIHSS certification required.
- Minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical experience.
- At least one prior travel assignment required.
- Trauma Level II experience required.
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start).
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience caring for CVA/TIA and observation-level patients.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change, work resiliently in a fast-paced environment, and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members including LPNs and CNAs.
- Comfort with cross-campus floating and mid-shift reassignment flexibility.
