Job Title: Risk Manager / Patient Safety Officer Profession: Nursing Specialty: General Practice Duration: Full Time Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Current full, unrestricted, active Registered Nursing license in Alaska Certifications: Certified CPHRM within two (2) years; Clinical Competency required within 3 months and every 3 years Must-Have: - 3 years of experience monitoring risk management, patient safety, quality, and regulatory requirements - Demonstrated leadership skills in facilitating and leading cross-functional teams Description: Responsible for the implementation of the internal risk management program. Develops, implements, and evaluates risk management strategies. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations related to risk management. Investigates reports and events in accordance with policy and statutory requirements. Provides primary oversight of the organization-wide patient safety program. Directs others towards process improvements that support the reduction of healthcare errors. Provides leadership for safety assessments, Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and Failure Mode Effects Analyses (FMEA). Educates management, staff, and physicians on the system-basis for medical errors. Participates in and maintains a comprehensive risk management program in accordance with state statutes. Collaborates in decision-making regarding patient safety and risk management. Investigates, evaluates, and submits adverse incidents in accordance with regulatory reporting requirements. Coordinates and facilitates the disclosure of an adverse incident and ensures appropriate follow-up with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Analyzes patient grievances received in risk management in accordance with state statutes. Facilitates Patient Safety Rounds. Provides risk management and patient safety education to various departments. Participates in educational and developmental opportunities as appropriate. Adheres to appropriate safety procedures and lifting techniques. Stays abreast of industry and clinical risk trends. Works closely and collaboratively with medical leadership and corporate counsel as needed on quality of care and risk management issues. Maintains working knowledge of regulatory standards. Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulatory standards. Monitors advancements in technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance. Assists with accreditation and quality support, including but not limited to chart audits and clinical reviews. Communicates professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization. Serves as a resource, mentor, and role model for others. Performs other duties as assigned, including cross coverage of other quality management team member roles.
