Travel Nurse RN - Medical-Surgical in West Des Moines, IA

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 30-bed Medical Surgical unit serving med/surg and post-operative/spine patients
• Administer and monitor heparin drips in accordance with facility protocols
• Maintain a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio on night shift
• Float across multiple campuses as required by unit needs
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support post-operative and spine care patient populations
• Required to work 1–2 winter holidays unless the unit is closed

Required Qualifications

• Active Iowa RN license or active Compact/Multistate RN license at time of submission
• Active BLS certification through AHA (American Heart Association) or ARC (American Red Cross) required
• Minimum 24 months of medical/surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting
• Strong heparin experience required
• Post-operative surgical experience required
• Spine care experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Minimum 3 months of travel nursing experience within the previous 12 months required; first-time travelers are not eligible
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months
• Experience floating across multiple hospital campuses
• Familiarity with orthopaedic or spine surgical patient populations
