Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Oncology

Contract | Nights (3x12-Hour Shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Onsite | 13–26 Week Assignment

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit with an Oncology patient population, including administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection), and management of complex medical-surgical diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, encephalopathy, and diabetic foot ulcers
  • Perform and manage clinical procedures including colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, surgical drain management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), and wound care including wound VAC
  • Administer and monitor high-risk medications including heparin drips and insulin; maintain non-invasive airway management and isolation precautions
  • Float to similar units and alternate care locations as needed, including inpatient holding in the ED or other medical patient care areas
  • Participate in every-other-weekend scheduling requirements and attend monthly staff meetings; make up any called-off shifts as required
  • Report to work as assigned during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, disasters, or storm/hurricane team activations
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an inpatient Medical Surgical setting
  • Proficiency in Med/Surg skills including colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, chest tube management, wound care/wound VAC, heparin, and insulin administration
  • Ability to administer chemotherapy if required
  • Current BLS certification
  • Ability to pass EKG testing prior to start
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
  • Charge nurse experience
  • Familiarity with EPIC, PYXIS, and SBAR communication systems
