The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. The RN applies the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care. The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN utilizes educational and professional experiences to deliver quality care and mentor/precept staff. Responsibilities include: Performing assessments and reassessments as warranted by patient condition. Initiating, prioritizing, and implementing the plan of care. Collaborating with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Monitoring and documenting responses to clinical interventions. Facilitating, coordinating, and providing education specific to patient and family needs. Delegating tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Mentoring and facilitating teamwork among staff. Identifying and communicating opportunities for improvement. Participating in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts. Complying with regulatory standards and participating in the practice governance model. The RN identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. The RN is knowledgeable about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration. The RN promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all. The RN recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. The RN synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information for communication purposes. The RN assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. The RN develops relationships with families that foster their ability to advocate for their needs. The RN is expected to read journals to stay informed about relevant studies or articles. The RN brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
