Description:
COVID vaccine is required.
Unit details include 11 labor and delivery beds and 7 antepartum/high-risk beds.
There are 2 operating room suites.
The unit has 32 postpartum beds.
The average number of births per year is approximately 4000.
Ratios follow AWHONN guidelines.
Required certifications include NRP and BLS.
Common diagnoses include pre-eclampsia, gestational and insulin-dependent diabetes, high BMI, multiples, advanced maternal age, and substance abuse disorders.
Registered nurses are required to titrate drips.
Common titratable and/or set rate drips include magnesium.
Charge nurse responsibilities are assigned.
Certified nursing assistants are available on this unit.
An obstetrician and neonatologist are in-house 24/7.
An advanced practice provider for neonatal or NICU is available 24/7.
Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is available for NICU.
There is no telemetry on this unit, but monitor techs are present.
Registered nurses read fetal strips.
The electronic fetal monitoring system used is Centricity Perinatal.
Weekend and holiday shifts are required.
There is a call and standby requirement if the registered nurse is on call due to low census.
Floating requirements may include transitioning to labor and delivery for normal newborn care.
Scrub colors consist of hospital scrubs in labor and delivery or personal scrubs in postpartum.
Department-specific orientation is provided.
The hospital has a cancellation policy allowing cancellations of up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
