Job Title: RN - Neonatal ICU Profession: RN Specialty: Neonatal ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of strong Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience. License: RN Certifications: BLS, NRP Must-Have: Must be comfortable in a high acuity, fast-paced environment. Description: RN - Neonatal ICU About Facility: 247 licensed beds. Level 1 pediatric trauma center. Teaching hospital. Chest pain center. Certified stroke center. Unit Information: 53 beds plus overflow; average patient census is 58. Required Experience: MUST be comfortable in a high acuity, fast-paced environment. Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Respiratory conditions including respiratory distress syndrome, TTN, meconium aspiration, bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Cardiac conditions including congenital heart defects, PDA, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn. Neuro conditions such as seizures, IVH, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. GI/GU/Musculoskeletal/Endocrine conditions including necrotizing enterocolitis, feeding intolerance, acute and chronic renal failure, birth trauma, congenital anomalies, sepsis, NAS, TORCH infections, hypothermia, hypoglycemia. Patient Ratios: RN: Varies on acuity: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3. Required Skills: EPIC experience. EVD management. Camino device management for ICP and temperature monitoring. Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration. Management of invasive lines including ART lines and CVP. Aseptic and sterile techniques. Basic dressing changes. Ventilator and tracheostomy management. HOFV management. Oral and nasal suctioning. G-tube and J-tube management. Feeding tubes and chest tubes management. Epidurals, PCAs, sedation, and analgesic drip management. Foley insertion and management. Alaris and Medfusion pump management. Bedside procedures with providers. Discharge skills. CRRT experience. Experience on the baby side of ECMO. Support within the Department: Unit secretary available every shift. Charge nurse available 24/7. IV/VAT/PCVC team available 24/7. Resource nurse available 24/7. Intensivist available 24/7. Residents in-house. Advanced practice provider in-house. Centralized and bedside tele-monitoring. Unit based educators available in the AM and PM. Clinical supervisors available. Technology/Equipment: EMR: EPIC. IV pump: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps. Med dispensing: Omnicell. Monitors: Phillips. Equipment: PIV ultrasound and Tecotherm. Breast milk scanning system in use. Floating: Potential floating to pediatric units as needed. Scheduling: Weekend rotation required to work 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other weekend. No call for travelers; floating may occur to similar units. Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work holidays as scheduled. Unit requirement includes working the eve and/or day after the holiday and every other holiday while contracted. RTO: Manager approval required for significant RTO needs. Shift times: 0645-1915 and 1845-0715. Schedule cycle every 6 weeks based on unit needs. Additional Notes: Scrub color: Navy. Dress code includes a solid navy or white long sleeve shirt if needed. No tight scrubs or branded attire from other organizations. Practice guidelines require bare below elbow in nurseries.
