Job Title: RN - Neonatal ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Duration: 8 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of strong Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience. License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, NRPS Must-Have: Must be comfortable in a high acuity, fast-paced environment. Description: RN - Neonatal ICU position available. The facility has 247 licensed beds and a level 1 pediatric trauma center. This is a teaching hospital with a chest pain center and certified stroke center. The unit consists of 53 beds plus overflow, with an average patient census of 58. Patient types include: Respiratory: Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, etc. Cardiac: Congenital Heart Defects, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn, etc. Neuro: Seizures, Intraventricular Hemorrhage, Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy. GI/GU/Musculoskeletal/Endocrine: Necrotizing Enterocolitis, Feeding Intolerance, Gastroesophageal Reflux, Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Birth Trauma, Congenital Anomalies, Sepsis, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, TORCH infections, Hypothermia, Hypoglycemia, etc. Patient ratios vary based on acuity: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3. Skills required include: EPIC experience, EVDs, Camino device for ICP and temperature monitoring, management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, management of invasive lines, aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and tracheostomy management, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation management, oral/nasal suctioning, gastrostomy and jejunostomy tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCA management, sedation and analgesic drip management, foley insertion and management, Alaris and Medfusion pump management, bedside procedures with providers, discharge skills, CRRT experience, and infant-side of ECMO experience. Support within the department includes a unit secretary every shift, charge nurse available 24/7, IV/Vascular Access Team, Resource Nurse, Intensivist, in-house residents, and unit-based educators. Technology used includes EMR: EPIC, IV Pump: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Med Dispensing: Omnicell, Monitors: Phillips, with equipment like PIV Ultrasound and Tecotherm. Weekend rotation is required, including working 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays, plus every other weekend. Holiday expectations require working either the Eve and/or Day after the holiday and every other holiday while contracted. Travelers are expected to have minimal requests for time off. Dress code requires navy scrubs, and a solid color long-sleeve shirt if needed. Practice guidelines maintain no watches, permanent jewelry, rings, or artificial nails.
