The facility has a total of 444 beds. It features a Level IV Perinatal Center and Level III NICU. This is a teaching hospital. The unit accommodates between 19-23 beds, varying by unit. The average patient census per day is 15-18, which can vary by unit. The patient types include respiratory issues, congenital heart disease, hematology/oncology, post-operative cases, and trauma. In the NICU, patients include premature infants, neurological cases, gastrointestinal issues, and feeders/growers. The PICU cares for intubated patients, post-surgical cases, patients with respiratory failure, and neurologically compromised patients. General pediatrics covers patients from neonate to 18 years of age, encompassing general cases, hematology, oncology, and post-surgical cases. The ER includes a pediatric population up to 18 years of age. In the PCICU, there are 16 beds for cardiac intensive care patients ranging from neonate to adult, addressing various congenital heart diseases and post-catheterization care. Patient ratios are set at 1:2 in the NICU and PICU. General pediatrics and ER have ratios of 1:3-4. In the PCICU, the ratio is 1:2. Support within the department includes the presence of CNAs to assist with patient care and room preparation. There is a receptionist or health unit coordinator available. A charge nurse is present on each department. Phlebotomy services are available in-house, primarily for general floors. An IV/VAT team is available as needed. Respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. Hospitalist services are also available around the clock. Intensivist services are on-site 24/7 as well. Telemetry monitoring and technicians are available when needed. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are in use. Floating may occur within the bi-campus environment. Weekend rotation is required every other week. Travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off must be approved through the manager. Shift times are from 0700-1900 and 1900-0700. The scheduling cycle operates on a 6-week basis. Scrub colors are navy. The unit promotes a culture of teamwork and friendliness.
