About the Facility:
Licensed for 247 beds.
Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.
Teaching Hospital.
Certified Stroke Center.
Unit Information:
53 beds plus overflow; average patient census is 58.
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
Respiratory issues such as respiratory distress syndrome and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Cardiac conditions including congenital heart defects.
Neurological issues like seizures and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
GI/GU and endocrine conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis and sepsis.
Patient Ratios:
Varies on acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3.
Required Skills:
Experience with EPIC.
Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration.
Management of invasive lines such as ART lines and central venous pressure lines.
Aseptic and sterile techniques.
Ventilator and tracheostomy management.
Basic dressing changes and bedside procedures with providers.
Support within the Department:
Unit Secretary every shift.
Charge nurse available 24/7.
Resource nurse available 24/7.
Intensivist and residents available 24/7.
Unit-based educators and clinical supervisors available.
Technology/Equipment:
Using EPIC as the electronic medical record.
Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps for IV administration.
Omnicell for medication dispensing.
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation required; including two Fridays, two Mondays, and every other weekend.
Holiday Expectations:
Travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled.
Unit Culture:
Focus on teamwork, trust, accountability, respect, and flexibility.
Dress Code:
Solid navy or white scrubs.
No tight scrubs and pediatric-friendly scrub tops.
Practice Guidelines:
Bare below elbow in nurseries; no watches or permanent jewelry allowed.
No artificial nails.
