Care for high-risk newborns is required.
No exceptions for travelers without this experience.
Description:
This is a Level IV Trauma Center.
The facility includes a Level III NICU.
It is a teaching hospital with 228 beds.
The NICU consists of 42 beds.
The unit cares for patients requiring respiratory support, such as nasal cannula and CPAP.
Additional support includes conventional and oscillator ventilation, as well as nitric oxide.
Central lines managed include PICC, UAC, UVC, and arterial lines.
Chest tubes and NG/PO feedings are also part of the care provided.
IV therapy includes maintenance fluids, vasopressor support, sedation, and paralytics.
Care arrangements also involve video EEG and cooling protocols.
Patient ratios in the unit typically range from 1:1 to 1:3.
Staffing follows established standards for maternal and neonatal care.
Required skills:
Assessment and reassessment skills are essential.
Proficiency in IV therapy and medication administration is needed.
Collaboration with ancillary departments is important, as is working with parents.
Candidates should be knowledgeable about caring for critically ill preterm and term newborns requiring multi-system support.
Unit support:
A Charge Nurse is available 24/7 for patient assignments based on staffing.
Respiratory Therapy and Neonatologists are also present around the clock.
House Supervisors support all hospital departments.
Additional support includes a Director of Women's Health, a Nurse Manager and Educator for NICU, and various consultants and therapists.
Charting systems and equipment:
An EMR system is used.
IV pumps and medication dispensing systems are in place.
Unit equipment includes advanced monitoring and feeding systems.
Traveling staff may float to another inpatient unit for newborn care only.
Orientation includes meeting with key personnel and training on the unit.
Travel staff will have their own patient assignments after a brief training period.
Scheduling involves a weekend rotation and no guaranteed block scheduling.
Requests for time off must be approved by management.
There is no on-call requirement for this position.
Holiday expectations will be based on the start date.
Scrub color is flexible but must maintain a professional appearance with no denim or camouflage.
