Description:
The position requires the ability to detect small changes in patients.
The unit consists of 48 beds, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for both days and nights.
Charge nurses do not have patient assignments and are supported by resource nurses.
There are patient care technicians available on the unit.
Nurses will be self-scheduling for shifts and are expected to work three weekends in a four-week period.
Holidays will be incorporated into the coverage rotation.
Scrub color is designated as Grey’s Anatomy or Steel.
The unit predominantly handles MedSurg cases but some telemetry skills are required.
Patients may require bipap ventilation support managed by respiratory therapy, which is available 24/7.
Pharmacy services are also available 24/7.
Common diagnoses include epilepsy, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, and traumatic brain injuries.
Nurses will be trained to assess cranial nerves and utilize specific equipment for patient safety.
There is potential for floating to other units as necessary.
Nurses must be competent in foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.
Education will also cover lifts, restraints, and wound care.
The hospital retains the right to cancel a limited number of shifts during the assignment.
