Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Level 1 trauma experience Description: Must have level 1 trauma experience. Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius. A valid driver's license is required. Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts allowed. Travelers are expected to have their own vehicles. Natural hair color is required, and no facial piercings are allowed. Men must be clean shaven for fit testing. Candidates will undergo a pass/fail exam on the first day of orientation. All registered nurses are required to complete lab skills competencies including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. This is applicable except for specific units which have different requirements. Maintaining a sterile field is crucial, and nurses typically proficient in this area will pass lab skills. Those unable to demonstrate competency in key areas may not be a suitable fit. Additional skills training will include lifts, restraints, and wound care. Unit details: 32 beds with typical ratios of 1:4. Common diagnoses include tracheostomy patients, strokes, traumatic brain injury, spinal surgery, encephalopathy, end-stage renal disease, psychiatric issues, and brain tumors. A fast-paced environment with high turnover and an average length of stay of 4-5 days is anticipated. Bedside reporting is utilized for patient handoffs. Possible floating to other areas of need is required. Cancellation policy is in place with limits on potential shift cancellations. Electronic medical records system in use is Cerner.
