Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years minimum License: Active RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Level 1 trauma experience Natural hair color; no facial piercings Men must be clean-shaven for fit test Description: The unit has a total of 48 beds, including 10 epilepsy specialty rooms. Nurses are expected to have strong critical thinking and assessment skills. Ability to detect small changes in patient conditions is crucial. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:4 for both days and nights. Charge nurses will not have patient assignments, and there will be one resource RN present during each shift. Nurse aides are available, with 1-2 on days and 1 at night. Weekend scheduling requires three shifts within a four-week period, with self-scheduling options available. Holiday shifts are rotated among nurses. Scrub colors are specified as grey. The patient population includes epilepsy cases, brain tumors, subdural hematomas, scoliosis surgeries, traumatic brain injuries, and various neurological diagnoses. The facility has 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy services. Frequent patient care tasks will include foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, with specific evaluation criteria in place. Nurses will receive educational training on lifts, restraints, and wound care policies. There is a strong emphasis on competency in sterile field maintenance. Floating to medical-surgical or telemetry may occur, as needed. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts within a 13-week assignment if necessary.
