Must have level 1 trauma experience.
Must have previous travel experience (no first-time travelers).
Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit.
Must have heparin drip experience.
Description:
The unit consists of 54 beds, including 2 semi-private rooms.
The nurse-to-patient ratio during the day shift is 1:4-5 and 1:5-6 during the night shift.
Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, and general neuroscience cases, with some medical overflow.
RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT.
A charge nurse is present 24/7, who does not take an assignment unless in case of short staffing.
A house supervisor is also available around the clock.
There are nurse aids/patient care techs on the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening and 1:10-12 at night.
RNs may occasionally troubleshoot high flow oxygen equipment but deal with limited COVID-19 patients.
House-wide telemetry is utilized, and nurses are not required to read their own strips as Phillips monitors are in use.
12-hour shifts are standard, with weekend requirements of every other weekend.
Every other holiday is required as well.
Staff may float within their general unit, and if floated outside of it, they will only perform tasks they are competent to do.
Scrub color is not mandated; however, tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ears may be pierced.
There is a 2-day orientation for computer systems and unit-specific procedures with a preceptor.
