Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active state license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have level 1 trauma experience. Must have previous travel experience (no first-time travelers). Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit. Heparin drip experience is required. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Neuro Med-Surg Acute specialty. The unit has 54 beds and care for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumors, and head injuries. Patient nurse ratios are 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift. A charge nurse and house supervisor are available 24/7. Nursing assistants and patient care techs are present, with a staffing ratio of 1:9-10 during the day and evening, and 1:10-12 at night. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, based on PTT. Telemetry monitors are used, and nurses are not required to read their own strips. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend and holiday required. Nurses may be floated as necessary, with the understanding they will only perform duties they are competent in. There is no scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty, and only ear piercings are allowed. Unit orientation will be conducted, including training on the specific computer and unit protocols.
