Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Neuro ICU License: NC or Compact License required at the time of start Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Strong Neuro Critical Care background with no less than 2 years of experience. Experience in managing stroke patients, including ischemic and hemorrhagic cases. Proficiency in using specialized equipment such as external ventricular drains, lumbar drains, and monitoring systems. Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias. Description: This position requires a skilled Registered Nurse to work in a Neuro Intensive Care Unit. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in neuro critical care. Experience with stroke patients is essential, as they represent a significant portion of the patient population. The average daily census is 11-12 patients, with a standard nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1, which may flex to 3:1 during high census. Nurses will be responsible for managing patients on ventilation, administering blood products, and providing post-neurosurgery care. Familiarity with isolation precautions and the use of personal protective equipment is necessary. The nurse will work with interdisciplinary teams, including physical therapy and respiratory services, among others. Preferred skills include arterial line management and experience with continuous IV sedation. Travelers may be required to float to different units based on census and skill set. Candidates must be comfortable with floating and have no restrictions or special requests in this regard. The role requires flexibility with scheduling, including every other weekend. All candidates must complete specific testing and pass an EKG evaluation prior to starting the assignment. This position offers an opportunity to work in a comprehensive stroke center with advanced procedures and technologies. Strong attention to detail and critical thinking are essential for success in this role. The candidate must also be prepared to work during major holidays as part of their commitment.
