Description:
This position is for a critical care registered nurse in the ICU.
The unit specializes in neurological conditions.
Common diagnoses include ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes, seizures, spinal surgeries, and brain mass resections.
The unit consists of 27 beds with an average daily census of 25 patients.
Patient ratios are 1:1-2 for critical cases and 1:3 for mixed acuity.
Skills required include management of vents, trachs, art lines, vasopressors, sedation, and central line blood draws.
Candidate should be familiar with CVVH/CRRT and EVD.
Support within the department includes CNAs, Charge RNs, Critical Care NPs, and intensivists.
Staffing includes a 24/7 respiratory therapist and phlebotomy services.
Technology includes an EMR system, IV pumps, and central monitoring equipment.
Floating may occur to emergency departments or other ICU settings when necessary.
The schedule involves weekend rotations every other week and holiday expectations are every other holiday.
Shift times are either from 0700 to 1900 or from 1900 to 0700.
The culture of the unit emphasizes strong teamwork and evidence-based nursing practice.
There are policies in place regarding work hour limitations for all staff.
