Shift Type: Nights, 12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM - 6:45 AM; every other weekend; rotating holidays; self-scheduling with schedules posted 4 weeks in advance
Hours per Week: 36
Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neuro-critical care at a 1:1 to 1:2 ratio, managing complex neuro diagnoses including CVA, ICB and post-op neuro surgery patients
- Assess, monitor and interpret telemetry and EKG strips and manage ventilators and advanced airway needs
- Document thorough bedside report and chart in Cerner to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate closely with hospitalists, intensivists, respiratory therapy, and ICU pharmacy for round-the-clock support
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned, providing leadership and break relief while supporting unit flow
- Perform or assist with procedures commonly seen in the unit such as ventriculostomies and line insertions
- Participate in the unit's strong Stroke Program and neuro interventional workflows
- Float to sister facilities as needed and adapt to occasional mid-shift changes when rare situations arise
Education
- Active RN license required
- BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Neuro ICU and critical care nursing
- Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
- Ventilator management and advanced airway care
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
- Care of post-op neuro surgery and neuro interventional patients
- Familiarity with stroke protocols and rapid assessment
- Ability to function effectively in a 24/7 acute care ICU environment
