Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Clinical Nursing Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: No experience required License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Accepts responsibility for words, actions, attitude, and results while meeting deadlines and performance expectations. - Practices effective, clear, and respectful communications (both verbal and written) and demonstrates attentiveness through active listening and engaged body language. - Collaborates, respects, and cooperates with all co-workers, valuing differences and addressing concerns directly, while actively contributing to the vision and results of the team. - Warmly, personally, and professionally greets all internal and external customers, promoting a high level of satisfaction by providing information about what to expect, actively listening, and intentionally following up on questions and concerns. - Proficiency in administering medications, performing various medical procedures such as wound care and IV therapy, and utilizing medical equipment and technology. - Strong assessment skills, critical thinking abilities, and the capacity to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. - Communication skills are vital for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and providing clear explanations to patients and their families. - Deep understanding of medical terminology, disease processes, and healthcare regulations ensures competent and safe delivery of care. - The role demands a combination of clinical expertise, empathy, and adaptability to meet the complex needs of patients while upholding professional standards of nursing practice. Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. A caring environment focused on healing and wellness is created. Nursing practices are based on evidence, current research, and hospital policies and procedures. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines. Direct patient care activities on the unit include provision of nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. Facilitating admission, transfer, and discharge activities is part of the role. Provision of patient and family-centered education is crucial. Care coordination and individualized treatment planning are necessary as applicable. The RN performs and documents comprehensive assessments in accordance with scope of practice. Consideration of the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level is essential. Patient risk factors and presenting complaints are identified. Obtaining patient health information from family or others may be necessary. Objective and subjective data are collected. Initial admission assessments are verified if obtained by other members of the healthcare team. A problem list is developed, prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. Actions and interventions relevant to the patient’s culture and age are designed. Desired outcomes are determined in coordination with the patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care. Patient care therapies and procedures are fully implemented with empowerment and clinical autonomy within scope of practice. Procedures, treatments, and processes are explained to the patient and family. Actions to alleviate the patient’s stress and discomfort are initiated. Changes in patient condition are recognized, responded to, and communicated appropriately. Ongoing assessment and response to procedures and therapies are conducted and documented using nursing processes. Priorities for the care of multiple patients are set. Resources are assured and a plan of care is coordinated. The workload is organized for effective utilization of time and energy relative to patient acuity and care processes. Tasks are delegated appropriately, overseeing team members in the performance of activities regarding patient care. Accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care provided by other team members are monitored. Educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems are identified and addressed. The patient discharge process is facilitated by executing discharge orders in a timely manner. Potential discharges are identified, and discharge teaching is performed. Coordination of the plan with Case Management and others is indicated. Input into patient/nurse assignments is provided with consideration of available staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity. Active participation in unit-based activities in support of organizational values and priorities is demonstrated. A positive group dynamic and healing environment are promoted through actions. Nursing excellence is assured in accordance with accepted standards, evidence-based practice, current research, and a caring philosophy. Participation in department and/or unit quality improvement activities and core measures is expected. A holistic perspective regarding patient care is used.
