Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro Stepdown & EMU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (3 shifts per week) Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Strong neuro experience, history of caring for stroke patients, NIHSS in hand at the time of submission Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in a Neuro Stepdown and EMU setting. The unit has a total of 31 beds, consisting of 25 Stepdown and 6 EMU beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio for stepdown is 1:3. Nurses are expected to care for higher acuity neuroscience patients. Experience with external ventricular drains (EVDs) is preferred. The unit manages patients post-thrombolysis (TPA) in accordance with established protocols. Common patient diagnoses include strokes, seizures, and patients requiring craniotomies. Nurses may be responsible for titrating drips based on physician orders. Common titratable drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, and Insulin. There is a charge nurse available 24/7. Nurse aides are present on the unit to assist with patient care. Respiratory therapy is available around the clock for support. Telemetry monitoring is available on the unit, and nurses do not need to read strips. Shifts are scheduled for three consecutive 12-hour nights from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Travelers should be flexible with scheduling and are expected to work holidays as part of the rotation. There's a possibility of floating to other units. The required scrub color is royal blue. Charting is done using an electronic health record system.
