General Information

Tell us about the unit(s):

·       Number of Beds - 32

·       Number of Staff – 46

·       Type of staff:

o   Day Shift – 1 charge, 5-7 RN’s, 1 PCT/clerk, 1 RT

o   Night Shift – 1 charge, 5-7 RN’s, 1 RT

·       Patient Ratios – 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 – depending on acuity

·       Type of equipment – Alaris pumps, Medela milk warmers, Natus and GE phototherapy lights, GE Panda warmers/Giraffes, CareFusion Oscillator, Getinge (Servo) Ventilator, Fisher and Pykel Bubble CPAP

·       EMR - Epic

Typical hiring profile

Skill Set Most recruited for: 

 

Must have:  candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.

·        Minimum 2 years recent Level 3 or greater NICU experience 

·       Experience caring for premature and critically ill neonates, including infants requiring respiratory support

·       Competency in management of patients receiving CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and mechanical ventilation

·       Experience with umbilical lines (UAC/UVC), PICC lines, and central line management

·       Experience administering and monitoring parenteral nutrition (TPN/lipids), IV medications, and neonatal drips

·       Proficiency in neonatal assessment, stabilization, and recognition of clinical deterioration

·       Epic EMR experience 

Preferred or nice to have:  candidates with these skills will be considered first.

·       Experience in Level IV NICU or regional referral NICU

·       Experience caring for micro-preemies (<28 weeks gestation) and extremely low birth weight infants

·       Experience with high-frequency ventilation (HFOV/HFJV) and inhaled nitric oxide (iNO)

·       Experience assisting with and caring for infants after PICC insertion, chest tube placement, and neonatal procedures

·       Experience with therapeutic hypothermia (cooling) protocols

·       Experience caring for infants with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE)

·       Neonatal resuscitation and stabilization

·       Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) management

·       High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy

·       Mechanical ventilation management

·       Surfactant administration

·       Umbilical venous catheter (UVC) and umbilical arterial catheter (UAC) line management

·       PICC line management and maintenance

·       Peripheral IV insertion and management

·       Blood product administration

·       Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and lipid administration

·       Phototherapy for hyperbilirubinemia

·       Nasogastric (NG) and orogastric (OG) tube placement and feeding

·       Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling) protocol management

·       Neonatal medication and infusion management

·       Neonatal sepsis evaluation and treatment

·       Discharge planning and caregiver education

·       Strong critical thinking and attention to detail when caring for fragile neonatal patients

·       Excellent communication skills with providers, coworkers, and families

·       Compassionate and family-centered, supporting parents through stressful and complex neonatal hospitalizations

·       Comfortable caring for both intensive care and feeder-grower patient populations

·       Receptive to feedback and committed to maintaining patient safety and quality standards

·       Positive attitude with a willingness to assist team members and contribute to unit culture

·       Confident and professional when managing emotionally challenging situations

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

·       NRP, BLS, STABLE, Current RN License
