Job Title: Patient Care Manager Profession: Nurse Manager Specialty: Psychiatry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 8.5 hours (3 shifts with 1-hour lunch) Experience: Must have 1 year of psychiatric experience. Preferred experience in medical settings. License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Certification in Psychiatry Mental Health Nursing preferred Must-Have: Experience in psychiatry with Med-Surg experience Description: The unit treats patients with severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues. Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Patients often have multiple comorbidities and are typically medically stable. Medically unstable patients are transferred out. Nurse to patient ratios will vary depending on acuity, typically ranging from 1:6 to 1:12. Typical staffing includes triage RNs, RNs designated for adults, pediatrics/adolescents, and a charge nurse. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and CPI; training available if needed. Medications administered include psychotropics, with no IVs involved. The nurse manager will oversee patient care while coordinating with a team of professionals. Knowledge of performance improvement and quality assurance is essential. The role requires effective communication to rebuild employee engagement and reduce potentially reportable events. Weekend and holiday work may be required. The position may require floating to inpatient units. The environment is fast-paced, with the ability to adapt to changing situations being crucial. The work involves collaboration with psychiatric physicians and medical physicians on shift. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and relationship management skills.
