Description:
This position provides unit-based leadership.
You will work collaboratively with the Nurse Manager, Director, Physicians, and staff.
You will supervise and direct the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
Ensure that all patients receive cost-effective, professional care resulting in positive outcomes and high patient satisfaction while maintaining the highest level of patient safety.
Assess and take steps to improve the quality of patient experience.
Responsibilities include:
Providing unit-based leadership in the development and provision of clinical services.
Supervising and directing unit personnel.
Initiating and coordinating individual and team conferences with health team members, patients, and families to develop and revise care plans for optimal, individualized patient care.
Directing and monitoring personnel in the performance of patient care activities to ensure adequate patient care and quality of work.
Participating in patient care as needed.
Fostering an environment of patient and family-centered care with attention to cultural diversity and personal needs.
Making rounds to have an overview of patient care needs and to introduce yourself to patients and families.
Soliciting feedback on the quality of nursing services and addressing any concerns.
Providing interventions and developing systems to address the care of patients throughout the continuum of care.
Developing strategies with Nurse Manager and Director to improve customer satisfaction for patients, families, and physicians.
Investigating and resolving patient care and operational issues as needed.
Recommending policy and procedure changes based on established standards in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Director.
Ensuring compliance with Patient Safety Goals as identified by regulatory agencies, hospital policy, Quality Measures, and Patient Safety initiatives through unit management and participation in hospital Performance Improvement Teams.
Working closely with clinical team members to implement systems or staff development activities to help staff meet patient and family needs.
Conducting ongoing assessments of department operations and patient care processes for improvement opportunities.
Facilitating data collection by staff and participating in unit quality activities to enhance care.
Assessing staffing requirements of the unit continuously.
Managing the number of assigned personnel based on patient acuity, needs, and available skills.
Assigning staff to particular patients and patient care activities according to professional and supervisory assessments.
Arranging staff relief for meals and breaks.
Reviewing and taking action on requests to adjust schedules, including requests to come in late, leave early, or utilize sick time.
Contributing to evaluations of unit employees' performance.
Coaching and disciplining personnel as appropriate, including issuing warnings and suspensions.
Being directly involved in decisions regarding hiring and termination of unit personnel.
Instructing new professional and ancillary personnel on job duties and assignments.
Working with facility services to ensure department and equipment maintenance.
Facilitating repairs of any broken or malfunctioning equipment.
Ensuring cleanliness of the department.
Keeping the Director informed of unit activities, incidents, and special needs in a timely manner, documenting pertinent information.
Keeping staffing costs within targeted budget.
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
