Description:
This position is a blend of charge nurse, clinical mentor, and manager responsibilities.
The clinician provides on-shift leadership to ensure safe, high-quality, and compassionate patient care while supporting staff and promoting a positive work environment.
They round on patients and address service or safety concerns.
The clinician serves as a resource for both clinical and interpersonal issues.
They will also take charge nurse assignments as needed, depending on census and staffing levels.
Unit includes all Medsurg Tele Units.
Ratios are 1 to 5 for med surg and 1 to 4 for chemo/tele patients.
Charting system utilized is Cerner.
There is a target of 2 Nurse Aides per shift.
Weekend requirement includes one weekend shift every two weeks.
There are 2 major holidays and a minor holiday requirement.
Scrub color is navy.
The tele system includes remote monitoring with technicians.
There are no ventilated patients.
Hospitalists are in-house 24/7.
There is no IV team, but a resource nurse is available for assistance.
There is a specialized team for PICC and midlines.
Respiratory therapy services are available 24/7.
Pharmacy services operate 24/7.
There is no call requirement, but if placed on standby for low census, the traveler must report within 30 minutes.
Floating is required to other med surg/tele units as needed.
Floor-specific orientation includes one shift on Cerner, if needed, and two shifts on the unit.
Common diagnoses include general medical surgical, GYN, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, some spine cases, and some joint cases.
Patients may have a history of oncology but do not need to be on active chemotherapy.
Candidates must possess strong central line experience.
Compassionate care and a passion for teaching and spending time with patients are essential attributes.
The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for assignments shorter than 13 weeks.
