Description: We are looking for an interim Med/Surg Manager. The department is undergoing significant changes that require a change agent. Maintains standards of nursing care and implements policies and procedures of the nursing department. Assures that each patient has a comprehensive care plan individualized to meet their needs. Ensures ongoing evaluation of each patient's physical and psychosocial needs. Works collaboratively with the health care team to ensure evidence-based nursing care. Ensures accurate shift sign-off and hand-off communication among staff. Communicates patient status through accurate reports and documentation. Maintains clinical competency and ensures staff competency in Medical Surgical patient care. Coordinates education for nursing staff to maintain competencies. Reviews and revises departmental policies and procedures as necessary. Responsible for coordinating and planning the orientation of new staff. Creates staff schedules and revises staffing patterns as necessary. Remains current in new developments in nursing knowledge through continuing education. Assists with procurement of equipment and supplies in Med Surg. Participates in preventative maintenance and proper use of equipment. Maintains good rapport with fellow workers and participates in improving unit outcomes. Leads regularly scheduled staff meetings and education for staff. Supports staff in coordinating patient care with ancillary departments. Oversees admission, transfer, and discharge processes in the assigned department. Ensures proper documentation of patient assessments and observations. Supports staff in managing and initiating intravenous fluids, blood products, and medications. Ensures documentation is present in the electronic medical record for significant changes in patient status.
