Job Title: Risk Manager / Patient Safety Officer Profession: Nursing Specialty: Care Manager Duration: Full Time Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in risk management, patient safety, quality and regulatory requirements, planning, and coordinating process changes. License: Current full, unrestricted, active Registered Nursing license. Certifications: Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) within two years. Must-Have: Clinical Competency required within 3 months and every 3 years. Description: Responsible for the implementation of the internal risk management program. Develops, implements, and evaluates risk management strategies. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations related to risk management. Investigates reports and events in accordance with policy and statutory requirements. Oversight of the organization-wide patient safety program. Directs process improvements that support the reduction of medical errors and unintended adverse patient outcomes. Provides leadership for safety assessments, Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and Failure Mode Effects Analyses (FMEA). Educates management, staff, and physicians on the systems that contribute to medical errors. Participates in and maintains a comprehensive risk management program. Collaborates decision-making regarding patient safety and risk management. Coordinates and facilitates the disclosure of adverse incidents and ensures appropriate follow-up with patients and families. Analyzes patient grievances in accordance with applicable statutes. Facilitates Patient Safety Rounds. Provides risk management and patient safety education. Participates in educational opportunities as appropriate. Adheres to safety procedures and lifting techniques. Stays informed of industry and clinical risk trends. Works collaboratively with other leaders on quality of care and risk management issues. Maintains knowledge of regulatory standards and monitors advancements in technologies. Assists with accreditation and quality support, including chart audits and clinical reviews. Communicates professionally and effectively within the organization. Serves as a resource, mentor, and role model for colleagues. Other duties as assigned, including cross coverage of other team member roles. Knowledge of accreditation requirements within healthcare. Strong working knowledge of patient care principles and practices. Understanding of quality improvement concepts and practices. Familiarity with medical peer review principles. Solid understanding of risk management concepts. General knowledge of organizational functions and operations. Ability to lead processes and effectively solicit input from individuals and groups. Experience with data analytics, including collection, analysis, and presentation of data. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to focus and prioritize to achieve goals. Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions. Travel Required: Minimum of 20% travel expected. Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May frequently lift and/or push/pull up to 25 lbs. Work Environment: Noise level is usually moderate. The setting includes office and healthcare environments with exposure to controlled temperature conditions. Normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
