Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dedicated Inpatient Oncology/Hematology Unit in Atlanta, Georgia. This role is crucial for providing specialized care to adult patients undergoing treatment for various cancers and hematological disorders within a dynamic hospital setting.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on comprehensive patient management, symptom control, and patient education. Our unit is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to a vulnerable patient population, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout their treatment journey.

Responsibilities include managing complex cases, administering specialized treatments such as chemotherapy and biotherapy, and providing essential emotional support to patients and their families. This position requires a commitment to excellence and a passion for oncology nursing.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to oncology and hematology patients, including comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, blood products, and other medications safely and in accordance with established protocols.
• Monitor patient vital signs, assess for adverse reactions, and effectively manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, and fatigue.
• Educate patients and their families on disease processes, treatment plans, medication management, and self-care strategies.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Maintain accurate and thorough patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
• Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff, adhering to all hospital policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as an RN in an Inpatient Oncology or Hematology unit.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in chemotherapy administration, including knowledge of various agents and management of associated side effects.
• Experience with central venous access devices (e.g., PICC lines, implanted ports), including assessment, dressing changes, and medication administration.
• Strong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills, with a patient-centered approach to care.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Competency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for documentation and order entry.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: AM
• Shift Duration: 12 hours (0700-1930)
• Days per Week: 3 days
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Assignment Dates: October 19, 2026 - January 16, 2027
• Weekend Rotation: Required as per unit needs.
• Holiday Requirements: Must work two (2) major holidays (Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day) and one (1) minor holiday (The Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve) during the assignment period.

Licensing Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
