Description:
The registered nurse will work in a bone marrow transplant oncology setting.
Oncology experience is required due to the complexity of care provided.
The nurse will provide care for patients undergoing auto stem cell transplants and chemotherapy administration.
Passing the Relias EKG exam is required.
There will be responsibilities in the management of dysrhythmias.
The nurse will float throughout the oncology department as needed.
The nurse may be assigned to the unit with the greatest need per shift.
Patient ratios are 4:1 for all shifts.
The average daily census is 30 patients.
Every other weekend work is required.
Client features include a Magnet and teaching environment.
Total staffed beds in the facility are 1,266.
The setting includes interdisciplinary support teams such as IV teams, physical therapy, and pharmacy.
Key patient diagnoses include leukemia, lymphoma, and blood dyscrasias.
Special procedures include chemotherapy administration and management of complications.
The registered nurse will be responsible for monitoring patients and recognizing abnormal lab values.
The nurse will also manage side effects of treatment and provide education to patients and their families.
Isolation precautions and safety protocols must be followed at all times.
This position may include handling hazardous materials associated with chemotherapy.
Candidates must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain adaptable to changing patient needs.
Continuous professional development and adherence to best practices in oncology nursing are essential.
