Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Hematology/Oncology Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years required; will consider acute oncology/hematology experience License: Current state nursing license required Certifications: BCLS required; ONS, BMTCN, OCN preferred Must-Have: - Phlebotomy skills - Ability to bring own stethoscope Description: This position is for a registered nurse in a classical hematology unit specializing in bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell disease, and DVTs. The clinic does not see patients with malignant hematology or oncology. Daily responsibilities include rooming patients, performing phlebotomy, and central line care. Assisting with bone marrow biopsies and vaccinations is also part of the role. The nurse will handle phone triage and ensure patients are scheduled appropriately for infusions. Patient education and case management will be required. Candidates will typically work with a benign hematology population only. The average daily census for the unit is 70 patients. There is no call requirement, weekend work, or floating to other units. Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not nurses. RNs must possess strong assessment skills and be effective in patient education. Certification in chemotherapy and administration of infusions is not required, as those procedures are not performed in this setting. Proper attire includes navy blue scrubs, which are not provided. Interview availability is necessary prior to approval for the position. The candidate must work two out of three major holidays. No requests for time off will be considered during the first week of the assignment.
