Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Oncology Floor Nurse in West Virginia. This position involves providing specialized care for oncology patients on a medical-surgical unit, with a focus on patients undergoing various treatments, including chemotherapy and post-operative recovery. The role requires adaptability to unit procedures and the ability to deliver compassionate patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 08/17/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, BLS (American Heart Association) certification, and a minimum of 2 years' experience in a registered nurse role.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with oncology patients, chemotherapy administration, PleurX chest tubes, and management of patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, or infections; BLS (American Heart Association) certification mandatory.
  • Patient Population: General Medical-Surgical patients including post-operative cases such as lap chole and lap appy, oncology patients with complications, and occasional psychiatric patients.
  • Nursing Ratios: Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6.
  • Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) required; additional certifications such as ONCC (Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) and BLSONS (Bellevue Laboratory School of Oncology Nursing Services) are a plus.
  • Clinical Skills: Experience with chemotherapy, management of chest tubes, and infusion of titratable drips such as Heparin.
  • Telemetry: Monitors are Phillips brand; RNs need to read and interpret strips.
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurse available 24/7, does not take a patient assignment during day shifts but does at night.
  • Nurse Aides: 3 CNAs available during day and night shifts, capable of performing basic patient care duties including blood sugar monitoring.
  • Respiratory Equipment: CPAP and BiPAP machines managed by RTs; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment or treatments.
  • Shifts & Scheduling: 12-hour shifts with self-scheduling possible, scheduled 4 to 6 weeks in advance.
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every-other-weekend shifts; participation in holiday rotation; holiday work incorporated with permanent staff.
  • Floating: Staff may float to other MedSurg or Telemetry units; ratios are capped when floating to lower acuity units.
  • Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs required.
  • Orientation: Number of orientation shifts not specified.
  • Additional Notes: Unit uses Epic charting system;402 BSN required; license to submit needed.
