Must-Have: Chemo or BMT experience preferred, but candidates with 1 year of oncology experience will be considered. General med/surg nurses must have 2 years of experience.
Description:
Department includes medical-surgical oncology care.
The unit has a total of 24 beds.
Nurse-patient ratios are 1:3-4.
Common diagnoses and types of patients include BMT, oncology, GYN oncology surgeries, hospice, and med/surg.
Experience with titrating drips is not required.
Commonly used drips include pain medication drips and PCAs.
A charge nurse is present on each shift and does not take patients.
Patient care technicians are available on the unit at a ratio of 1:8.
Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP and High Flow.
Tele-monitor technicians are present on the unit and must respond appropriately to life-threatening rhythms.
Scheduling is managed at the management level and flexibility is requested from staff.
Weekend and holiday work may be required.
Travelers may be asked to float to similar units and sister facilities as needed.
There is no standby or call requirement.
Scrubs can be of any color, but hoods are not permitted.
Teamwork is highly valued within the unit.
Oncology and chemo certifications are preferred for travelers.
Candidates without oncology or chemo experience must have 2 years of med/surg experience.
The unit may care for higher acuity patients than general med/surg units.
