Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day and Night shifts available Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Valid state or compact nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, OCN preferred Must-Have: - Current acute care experience in the specialty area applying for - Medical-surgical experience required Description: The position is for a Medical Surgical Oncology Registered Nurse. Candidates with hematology oncology experience are preferred but not required. Medical-surgical experience is mandatory. Staffing ratios are aimed at 1:4 but may go up to 1:5. Weekend shifts will vary based on unit needs. There is no set or blocked scheduling for permanent staff. Self-schedule requests are encouraged for preferred schedule considerations. The first week of training will include day shifts. The second week entails on-unit training with a designated preceptor. The position requires floating to other medical-surgical and oncology units as needed. Common patient diagnoses include lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias, chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, and other hematologic conditions. Special procedures in this unit include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and IV antibiotics. The role addresses oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome. Infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention are heavily emphasized. Additional skills necessary include telemetry interpretation, IV therapy, and blood product administration. Experience with computerized charting systems is required. The daily census is projected at approximately 31 patients, and there are 36 beds within the unit. Interdisciplinary support will be available from various departments. Professional references are required, including one from a supervisory role.
